Effects of Younger Generations Chasing Likes - Coggle Diagram
Effects of Younger Generations Chasing Likes
False Information & Deception
Photoshop and fake information
being able to understand that not everything is 100% true
If they are constantly seeing things that are untrue they begin to create a false reality in their brain.
differentiating between reality and "illusion"
At the age of figuring themselves our but how are they supposed to figure it out if they are being fed things that are not entirely true.
Algorithms
only feed information that the person is most likely to interact with
constantly being fed information that has little true to it, or not the full story
everyone is affected by algorithms even if they are not on social media, happens on the internet as well
Controls what people are seeing
happening below the surface (things/issues that not everyone recognizes or is aware of)
Mental Health
I think many people could agree that social media has negatively affected our mental state
important to start teaching at young age because younger gen are consumed by social media
spike/increase in suicide rates
Social media is potentially affecting the way in which they are growing.
They dont know how to dissociate it from their life.
Self-Worth
Popularity of social media, wanting the most amount of likes as possible
How does getting a lot of likes affect the way they feel about themselves?
constant comparison to other people and influencers
living like other people does not mean you're living the life you desire
Also if they are defined by likes and they are not getting as many likes as they hoped for they may feel as if they are not good enough.
younger generations are still trying to establish themselves and who they want to be. If they are constantly being fed false information and lies or photos that are photoshop, how is that going to affect the way they construct themselves?
Future
Maybe by talking about this we can figure out how to better educate the younger social media users in a way that is beneficial to them and potentially protect them in their future
I think all of us are guilty of looking at someone’s social media page and being envious of their life. I think that my topic will help emphasize that just because someone looks like they are happy and looks like they have this perfect life doesn’t mean that they are actually happy
The generation below me/us is growing up in a time where social media is very prevalent and there is so much more than just being on an app and seeing what’s going on.
