Formation of lymph
extra fluid flows out from the capillaries
fluid is called ECF (Extracellular fluid)
most fluid flows back into capillaries
some fluid flows into lymph vessels and is now known as lymph
moves through these vessels via ordinary body movement.
lymph flows slowly through a series of tubes and eventually flows into the bloodstream
lymph
is made from tissue fluid and contains white blood cells, and small amounts of fats and proteins
Lymph vessels
lymph vessels are found throughout the body
lymph moves through these vessels via ordinary body movement
valves in the vessels prevent the lymph from moving backwards
lymph returns to the the blood in the subclavian veins
Functions of the lymphatic systems
to collect tissue fluid and bring it back to the bloodstream
to fight infection
filtering foreign cells in the lymph nodes
maturing and storing lymphocytes (white blood cells_
destroying foreign cells by engulfing them or creating antibodies
to transport fat
to help with hearing and balance
