Place Value
International system numerals
In international system is used to write numbers throughout the world.
In international system, the writing and speaking pattern is different. We put commas after every three digit. There are no Lakhs and Crores category in international system of numbers.
One lakh( 1,00,000 ) is represented as One hundred thousand
(100,000 ) in international system of
numbers, and Ten lakh ( 10,00,000) is represented as One million in 1,000,000 International system of numbers.
Roman numerals
Roman numerals is another way to write numbers but there are no "0" in them so thy did not use place value.
Roman numerals have 7 basic symbols represented by letters :
Roman numerals : I V X L C D M Hindu-Arabic : 1 5 10 50 100 500 1000
While writing a roman numeral keep these rules in mind
Putting a letter after one bigger value means you add it.
Putting a letter before one bigger value means you subtract it.
A letter can be repeated up to 3 ties only.
V and L are never subtracted
I can be subtracted from V and X only
X can be subtracted from L and C only.
V and L are never repeated.
When a smaller number that has been made of two letters using addition/subtraction rule is combined with a larger number, the whole of the smaller number is written to the right of the larger one.
Lakhs
Ten Lakhs are the 7 digit numbers. 10,00,000 is the smallest 7 digit number.
If we see in the place vale chart the "Lakh's" category contains Lakh and Ten lakh.
Indian System
Indian system of numbers are used to write numbers throughout India.
In Indian system of numbers, we put a comma after the starting three digits ( Ones category in place value chart) and then we put commas after every 2 digits.
crores
Crores are the 8 digit numbers. The biggest 7 digit number is 99,99,999 and if we add 1, It will be the smallest 8 digit number. (1,00,00,000)
Place value tells about the value of a digit
