Watergate
- In June 1972, the break-in at democratic party headquarters led by CREEP where the burglars were then arrested.
- Connections between burglars and the republican party/ White House were made.
- ”Deep Throat” leaked information to the Washington Post about Nixon's involvement in the Watergate Scandal which opened an investigation where the tapes were found
- Nixon continuously plead innocent; where the famous quote "I'm not a crook" came from
- Nixon claimed executive privilege and offered summary of the tapes but the Court demanded the tapes but Nixon's assistance erased the part that incriminated Nixon
- Nixon resigns on August 9th, 1974
Nixon Foreign Policy
China: Nixon was able to eased trade restrictions with China. US and China were able to peace after years of diplomatic isolation
Middle East: Israel had been having trouble with the Arabs. Nixon stepped in and helped out the country of Israel.
USSR: Detente policy was used in order to ease the tensions between the USSR and USA. Then, which forced him to move from old the traditional policy of Containment
Carter
Failures: Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan, Iranian Hostage Crisis, era of stagflation, and oil crisis he wasn't able to succeed in
Success: Camp Davis Accord, Torrijos-Carter Treaty, Creation of Department of Energy and Department of Education
Ford
Success: Ford was able to continue with some of Richard Nixon's Foreign Policies. He was able to have both democratic and republics on his side because he was trustworthy.
Failures: When he left, the economy was still suffering and there was still distrust in the government.Inflation was also at a all time high so, Ford created WIN, which turned out to be a failure as well.
1968 Election
In the year 1968, Nixon ran for the republican party against Hubert Humphrey. Nixon ended up winning with 301 electoral votes.
1972 Election
Nixon ran for reelection in the year 1972, he feared he would't win this election (which was the reason behind the watergate scandal). But, in the end Nixon won by a landslide against his democratic opponent, George McGovern.
