Hydroxyapatite crystal formation
And dissolution, resulting in a reduction of bone turnover
And inhibits osteoclastic bone resorption
Clodronate binds to calcium
SIDE EFFECTS
Skin redness, peeling and itching
Sudden sharp pain in the hip, groin or thigh
Damage to the jaw bone
Diarrhoea
Breathing problems especially if you have asthma
Low levels of calcium in the blood
Feeling or being sick
ROUTE
Orally
STORAGE
Keep away from children
kept at room temperature
Sore at a cool dry place
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Inability to sit upright or stand for at least 30 minutes
Difficult/painful swallowing
Kidney disease
Intestinal problems
NURSING CONSIDERATIONS
Check side effects
Take dose at regular time
Eat well balanced meals that contains adequate calcium and vitamin D
Advice patient to eat before taking drugs medication
INDICATIONS
Severe hypercalcaemia associated with malignancy
Osteolytic lesions
Bone pain associated with skeletal metastases
High levels of calcium in the blood
