Loop Diuretics(Torsemide)
Mechanism of action
Torasemide (torsemide) is a high-ceiling loop diuretic which acts on the thick ascending limb of the loop of Henle to promote rapid and marked excretion of water, sodium and chloride
Torsemide increases the urinary excretion of sodium, chloride, and water, but it does not significantly alter glomerular filtration rate, renal plasma flow, or acid-base balance

Nurses consideration
Inspect skin (note presence of edema and status of skin turgor) to determine hydration status and have a baseline data for effectiveness of drug therapy
Assess cardiopulmonary status (blood pressure, pulse rate, heart and lung sounds, etc.) to evaluate fluid movement and state of hydration. It is also to monitor the effects on the heart and lungs
