My inquiry-based learning environment
Flexibility
Furniture and displays can be moved easily to redefine the space. Desks, chairs, beanbags, carpet and even the Promethean board can be easily and safely moved around for different organisational reasons.
Cables/wires horizontally suspended from ceiling will provide additional display or allow screen to be hung which would allow the class to be partitioned.
Portable technology supplemented with Macs, Lego Mindstorms, Piper kits etc.
Apart from backed display boards, the walls begin empty.
Additional display boards and folding tables for class museum displays.
Partitioned office with glass walls and door for small group, paired and individual meetings.
Design idea
Indoor / outdoor classroom
Easy access to outdoor area through glass doors. This area includes an small open-air theatre, natural resources, Forest School fire pit and a matted or woodchipped area suitable for developing ATLs and Learner Profile skills explicitly.
Indoor / outdoor shoes storage
Outdoor play and climbing area.
Learning community
Children participate in decision about class displays, groupings, and other uses of shared space.
Children individually and collectively responsible for classroom environment
Inclusion
Flexibility of classroom facilitates small group and individual support
Ramped access between classroom and outdoor environment

Inquiry
Class library, individual iPads and realia as well as own class museums all facilitate inquiry.
