Reproductive System
Female
Gametes:
- female gametes are called ova or egg cells
Ovaries:
- are small, oval-shaped glands that are located on either side of the uterus. The ovaries produce eggs and hormones.
Fallopian tubes:
- These are narrow tubes that are attached to the upper part of the uterus and serve as pathways for the ova
Uterus:
- also called womb, an inverted pear-shaped muscular organ
Vagina:
- is an elastic, muscular canal with a soft, flexible lining that provides lubrication and sensation. The vagina connects to the uterus
Labia (lips):
- are folds of skin around your vaginal opening
Mons pubis:
- is a rounded mound of fatty tissue that covers the pubic bone
Vestibule:
- contains the opening to the urethra and the vaginal opening.
Mammary Gland:
- is a gland located in the breasts of females that is responsible for lactation, or the production of milk.
Male
Gamates:
- male gametes are called sperm
Outer covering of the testes,
- unica vaginalis, separates from the peritoneum and descends from the abdominal cavity to the scrotum
Testes:
- primarily male sex organ
- testes are oval organs that lie in the scrotum
Sperm:
- lives 30-60 days after mcitoration
- can live in the vagina for 72 hours
Spermatogenesis:
- is the process by which immature male germ cells divide
Penis:
- is the male sex organ, reaching its full size during puberty
- its sexual function, the penis acts as a conduit for urine to leave the body
Semin:
- fluid that is emitted from the male reproductive tract and that contains sperm cells, which are capable of fertilizing the female's eggs
Reproductive System:
- is a collection of internal and external organs in both males and females
Male reproductive System:
- consists of a number of sex organs that play a role in the process of human reproduction. These organs are located on the outside of the body and within the pelvis.
Female Reproductive System:
- is made up of the internal and external sex organs that function in reproduction of new offspring
