Mechanism of action
the to trisphophate by cellular kinases
trisphophate inhibits the DNA polymerase
and its turns to converted to the disphosphate
and selectivey inhibits viral DNA replication
after the conversion to penciclovir viral thymideine kinase phosphorylates it to monophosphate form
Indications
it should be applied every two two hours
during waking hours for a period of four days
in old people and children at the age of twelve years older than
it is indicated for treatment of recurrent herpes labialis(the cold sores)
Contraindications
it is also contraindicated in patients with a history of famiciclovir hypertensitivity
since the penciclovir is the active metabolite of famciclovir
it is contraindicated to patientswith the penciclovir hypertensitivity
Side effects
changes in the sense of taste
application site reaction such as:
headache,swollen mouth and throat
side effects include
rash, itching, pain, redness, burning skin discoloration, hives, numbness
Storage condition
20 degrees celcius
store at acontrolled room temperature
Route of administrattion
and it is important to the active antiviral compound penciclovir
it hasstrong inhibitory effects against herpes simples virus type 1and 2
penciclovir is orally administered drug
Nursing considerations
instruct patient to wash hands before and after appplicsation
avoid contact of eyes with drug
monitor the extent of the lesions and the treatment effectiveness
do not breastfeed when taking this drug
