- - - - some working class girls still have marriage and children as top priorities and expect little career wise and expect a low paid job
      - Reay - this reflects how ambition is linked to class and the lack of ambition reflects the amount of job opportunities available to them. In contrast, marriage and family life is attainable and offers them a source of status
      - Biggart - working class girls are more likely to face a precarious position in the labour market and therefore see motherhood as a more viable option and see less importance in their education. The girls in Fuller's study were low aspiring and aspired to low level jobs instead so held less importance over achieving a high education
- - - - Hyper heterosexual feminine identities
        
        many girls invested considerable time, effort and money into developing desirable and glamourous hyper heterosexual feminine identities
        
        they constructed identities that combined black urban american styles with sportswear and sexy clothes, and makeup and hairstyles
        
        the girls performance of these identities lead to avoiding being called 'tramps' for wearing the wrong brands although it created conflicts as the school believed their obsession with appearance was a distraction to their education and were often punished for too much makeup or jewellery and this lead to teachers othering the girls as if they aren't one of us
        
        Bordieu - symbolic violence - harm done by denying someone of symbolic capital e.g. defining someones culture as worthless or less than another
        
        the ideal female pupil is de sexualised and middle class
      - boyfriends
        
        it gave them symbolic capital but distracted them from education and lowered their aspirations including deciding not to go to uni and not wanting to study masculine subjects such as science or not wanting to obtain a proffessional career
        
        many girls saw family making as their main priority and some girls had to drop out of education as they had fallen pregnant
      - Being loud
        
        some girls adopted an independent, outspoken stance that questioned teachers' authority and created a conflict
        
        teachers interpreted their behaviour as aggressive and this created conflict as the ideal pupil for students is a passive and submissive middle class girl
