Retail Food Branding: Unpacking the Brief and Assessment Tasks
Brief:
Create a Business Card and Logo
Design a menu to go alongside everything
Design a name for Business
Your final design pieces should integrate technical and creative processes to produce outcomes that meet design objectives.
Assessment Task Part 1:
A.) Unpack the assessment task / re-brief in consultation with stakeholders
B.) Research other retail food branding and collect sample logos (reference images)
C.) Research and list what techniques and software are used to create logos
D.) Brainstorm your business name, target audience and SMP (Single Minded Proposition) using a mind map or other creative thinking tool
E.) Outline cultural, social and environmental issues and impacts to be considered in developing new concepts and whether your concept could be commercially viable
F.) Using research findings,produce at least:
i. 10 thumbnail sketches for your logo concept
ii. 2 thumbnail sketches for each of the other items
iii. seek and record peer feedback
G.) Using feedback,describe modificationsof the design and options for layouts
H.) Edit and refine ideas and graphicsthrough experimentation
I.) Conduct a self-evaluation from both a technical and aesthetic context and seek feedback from stakeholders and peers
J.) Compare how your concept sits within the retail food business market
Assessment Task Part 2:
A.) Logo: Vectorformat in full colour (PMS/CMYK/RGB) and (MONO) black and white.
B.) LogoStyle Sheet:Research ‘logo’ style guides and provide a style sheet for yourlogo listing;
o PMS colour
o CMYK/RGBcolour break down
o MONO break down
o Typography
o Brand/style imagery
C.) Business Card: 90x55 mm standard size but can be customised.
D.) Menu: Customised size (use of tables and/or tabulated text is required for pricing)
E.) Company Uniform: You are required to develop a Polo/T-Shirt/Business Shirt design for your company. A4 (The brief from the client is that it is to feature the logo and a slogan (SMP).
Assessment Task Part 3:
A.) Confirm that all designs are based on original ideas concepts and there is no legal, ethical and contractual information applicableto the design
B.) List the different file formats used within your assessment task and explain why they were used
C.) Complete a rationale, including but not limited to;
i.Identify and evaluate technical problems based on developing your skills and completing the assessment
ii.Describe following safe work practices for computer usage and in the design process
iii.Self evaluation of design process
D.) Final Files: All Illustrator files and Photoshop files will be incorporated in Adobe InDesign for final files. Students will utilise the ‘File package’ tool in Adobe InDesign to package each individual piece of work, save following correct file saving protocols for outputand follow the naming conventions mentioned in this assessment task sheet
