Modes of
Nutrition
Heterotropic
In this mode of nutrition, organisms depend on others for their food. E.g. Human beings, animals and other parasitic plants like cuscuta depends on host, insectivorous plants like pitcher, sundew etc.
Autotropic
In this mode of nutrition, organisms make their food themselves from simple substance.
E.g. green plants
Saprotropic
In this mode of nutrition, organisms take their nutrients from dead and decaying matter. E.g. Fungi like mushrooms.
Symbiotic
In this mode of nutrition, two plants of different species live together and help each other in obtaining food and shelter.
e.g. Lichen (Algae & Fungus)
Photosynthesis
The process by which autotrophic green plants make their own food from simple inorganic substances (CO2,H2O) in the presence of sunlight and chlorophyll (green pigment).
