Communication
The communication of the project was good and has been well received, I would have liked to find out before the parents, but this is typical of the school
The delivery of the message was exciting and engaging, I am interested to see what happens next
SLT spoke with excitement and passion about the new idea, it felt infectious
The meeting about the changes was handled well. I feel informed
The launch was handled well with KC and RC and it felt as though they wanted to listen to any concerns we had.
Timing and pace of change
This feels a strange time to be making such changes when the business is saying it is financially struggling, I would like to know how much investment has gone into phase 1
Do we really have the time to get this off the ground, I am exhausted after lockdown learning
I am concerned about the speed in which this is happening
Feeling a bit daunted-it's a lot of change and coming quite quickly
I am really fed up with the pace of change here, I need to consider my future
More change for Akeley, hardly surprising things change all the time here, we do not wait to measure the impact before we move on
Concept
The concept is exciting and relevant, I think this will make Akeley's Sixth Form stand out in a competitive market.
The new approach feels too relaxed, the students already look untidy and I am worried they will look worse with a lack of uniform
This is the direction Akeley should have taken years ago
Style and substance-if we get the second bit right then it'll be a real differentiator for AWS
The Sixth Form has needed a refresh for some time, I am positive that this will help with retention from Year 11
It will be interesting to see how the students adapt to a new approach.
Fear
The technology at THM is poor-I think this will have a detrimental impact on AW6
Where will students eat at AWH with two more year groups at the school, surely it will feel too crowded
Year 11 will take advantage of the new space and will not work hard enough, there are characters in there that will make it disruptive
I like the idea of a new challenge, I just hope SLT put support structures in place
However, I do not feel clear on what it means for me and my job and where I will be based
Worried that the lack of proper investment will mean that THM will still feel like a KS3 campus
Teaching and Learning
My department are really looking forward to trying something different
This is an exciting opportunity to try something new with teaching and learning
A lecture and Seminar approach sounds good, but cannot see how it will work in my subject
I am an experienced KS5 teacher, I do not understand why we need to change our approach to teaching when my value added at KS5 has been above +0.5 for the last three years
I am excited to work with my team to see how we can make out subject fit into the AW6 concept
How are we going to be ferrying students back and forth from English to Art and DT? They will be late for every lesson
Collaboration
I think HoDs should have been consulted on the use of space at THM. Most of my departments lessons will have to remain at AWH-this doesn’t seem to fit in with AW6
I would have welcomed an opportunity to comment about the idea prior to the decision being made. Who was consulted?
What about Outdoor Learning. I have worked really hard to make an engaging space at THM. Is this being recreated at AWH, if so when? I feel that it would have been nice if I had been consulted
Lack of consultation and more change, meaning more work for the same money.
Great idea, more consultation would have been good
