Motivation
Novelty
-
As we repeat an activity over time, our motivation tends to go downhill.
-
Performing a new task causes numerous parts of our brain to become activated, foremost among which is the dopamine system, which sends dopamine to locations across the brain.
Eg - When we get a new haircut, visit a new place, etc. our brain is flooded with dopamine, sometimes without us being conscious of it.
Using new media such as games and videos in classrooms, thus, tend to increase motivation levels among students.
Time
-
-
The circadian system also allows anticipation of opportunities to engage in motivated behaviors that occur at predictable times of the day. The time at which a task is performed thus governs the level of motivation.
Creativity
Not everyone has the same interests. People are mostly motivated to do tasks that they are passionate about.
There are three main networks related to creativity: Imagination, Salience and Executive Attention Networks
-
Thus people, especially children, should have a choice to pursue fields which they are passionate about, as it would increase their motivation to do it.
Immunity
Human physiological response continues to reflect the demands of earlier environments. Threats that do not require a physical response (e.g., academic exams) may therefore have physical consequences, including changes in the immune system.
