The great depression
The great depression was a period during the 1930s where the US economy went down given the shock of the market.
Since the great depression in America affected overall employment numbers. unemployment rose up to 25% and homelessness increased.
A third of all banks failed
International trade collapsed
The main characters showed how the need to find work was challenging.
Lennie and George are vagabonds.
They go wherever there is work.
Personal Choice
When a person made decisions, which will have an impact in their future.

Their choices were already made for them.
George is the one who makes the decisions between him and Lennie.
Lennie’s poor memory complicated things.
Prior issues with work
To find a job was incredibly difficult, which is why they had left for California to find one, but were unable to.
George and Lennie are migrant farm workers.
they travel from farm to farm, hiring themselves out as temporary labor.
Farm workers didn’t earn much.
Picking crops is hard work.
Social issues
Lennie because of his size, strength and overall low IQ, he often scared or offended, or molested coworkers, creating problems for both Lennie and George. .
The constant conflict between man and society
They suffered from social prejudice -> Their coworkers were constantly discriminating them.
Lack of moral
Lennie’s mental disability.
Loneliness and the need of companionship.
