non-regenerative anaemia, most common form of anaemia seen in cat and dog,…
non-regenerative anaemia
Haematocrit, haemoglobin concentration of RBC below the lab reference range
care dx anaemia in cat, as HCT, Hb, and RBC count decrease approx 25% in cats during GA
In dogs arterial blood samples give lower values than venous samples, care to compare to correct ref range
reticulocytopenia - hallmark of non-regenerative anaemia is a reticulocyte count less than 60,000/mcL in dogs and less than 50,000/mcL in cats
feline reticulocytes occur in 2 forms (punctate and aggregate). Aggregate reticulocytes are believed to be most important for assessing response to anaemia and represent those counted by analysers
once hypoxaemia occurs, 3-7 days are required for production of reticulocytes, so blood loss anaemia and haemolytic anaemia may initially appear non-regenerative
