Applied Linguistic as a science
Psycholinguistic
It is a science that does not help to know how and when speech occurs within our brain. It also focuses on understanding the brain.
Priming experiment
It is an experiment used to test how related words are within the brain.
Gating
It is used to find out how much word a participant needs to hear or see until they know and learn it.
Garden path sentences
This experiment focuses on interpretation before making a different structure.
Sociolinguistic
It focuses on how language reacts in society.
For example:
The way of speaking under a different social group, that is, the vocabulary of a university medical student is different from that of an architect.
The different accents in the speech of each town.
The way of talking among teenagers
Computational Linguistic
It's concerned with understanding written and spoken language from a computational perspective and with constructing artifacts that process and produce language in a useful way.
Through the time:
On the other hand, scientists have tried to make computers communicate consistently.
Computer scientists have tried to make a computer capable of speaking and understanding human speech.
Computers can translate a language mechanically but they don't understand what we really speak.
Neurolinguistic
It teaches us how speech occurs within the brain. Also how it relates to different aspects of human communication.
Processes
The motor cortex. It is responsible for physically articulating speech. That is, it controls the movement of the muscles of the mouth.
Speech occurs in the left hemisphere, more specifically in the broca's area.
We also have the wernicke area. Through which we can understand language.
