SPECIAL EDUCATION REFERRAL PROCESS
PRE REFERRAL
Parents & teachers observe student behavior that makes them suspicious that the child may have learning difficulties.
REFERRAL
IDENTIFICATION
A referral is submitted to school specialists and learning support, with parent approval asking for an evaluation of the child.
ELIGIBILITY
An evaluation conducted by educational professional to determine the learning needs of the child and have a clear picture of what disabilities the child suffers from.
INDIVIDUAL EDUCATIONAL PLAN
Assessment & evaluations reveals no identifiable needs and the child and the child does not qualify for the special learning support services.
Child qualifies for special education under any of the following disabilities:
Autism
Emotional Disturbance
Deaf-Blindness
Development Delay
Hearing Impairment
Intellectual Disability
Multiple Impairments
Orthopedic Impairment
Other Health Impairment
Specific Learning Disability
Specific Language Impairment
Traumatic Brain Injury
Visual Impairment.
IMPLEMENTATION
The Individual Educational Plan includes:
- Student goals
- Student performance Objectives
- Student disability areas and what support they will receive
- Schedule; how many hours / week will the child be part of this program
- Timeline for evaluation & review
Parents, teachers, educational professionals whom were part of the child's evaluation design, approve and implement an Individual Educational Plan.
REFERENCES:
EVALUATION & REVIEW
The IEP is measure against set and established goals. Parents are at all times kept up to date on progress.
The IEP is implemented and monitored by specialist, educators and parents. Educational professionals utilize educational tools such as therapy, technology and special classes to ensure success.
Parents, teachers, educational professionals and all involved in the student IEP meet annually to review the educational plan for the coming year & review and evaluate the previous year progress.
