Overwhelming stress caused by traumatic events such as war, abuse, accidents, or disasters

Symptoms
Duration (many cases of DA are short, lasting hours or day. In some cases, they may last longer)

Memory loss (amnesia) of certain time periods, events, people and personal information
Cannot be explained by another condition (in people with DA, memory loss cannot be explained by other conditions, such as brain injury, stroke, or use of alcohol or drugs)
What is it?
Dissociative amnesia is rare; it affects about 1% of men and 2.6% of women in the general population
