Rail passengers can also make complaints with photos using any social media platform of Indian Railways.
A direct phone facility has also been provided as a direct option for immediate complaint or help.
Based on PNR and intelligence, raids are conducted on those procuring stolen property.

The sensor-enabled water taps and CCTV cameras are damaged by the passengers even in some of the premier trains.

The plan outlines the improvement of linen management with the objective of providing clean, hygienic and good quality linen to passengers travelling in AC classes.
Railways is maintaining close coordination with local police and Government Railway Police (GRP) to prevent theft
Indian railways also plan to increase the frequency of washing blankets and replace the existing ones with the newly designed, lightweight blankets which are made up of soft fabric and will costs less.
We always keep saying that railway is our property but that doesn't mean we will take everything with us.
in the face of these rampant thefts, especially of towels, Indian Railways has decided that face towels which are given to passengers travelling in air-conditioned coaches will be replaced with cheaper, smaller, disposable, takeaway napkins.
Economical Impact
A loss of around Rs 4,000 crores has been incurred by the Indian Railways over the last three fiscals, with thefts on trains causing further loss of revenue to the Railways.
In 2016-17, bed linen and towels worth ₹71.52 lakh were stolen from 56 trains in the Mumbai division comprising Mumbai Central, Bandra and Surat, according to the Western Railway.
Between April to September 2018 only, 79,350 hand towels, 27,545 bed sheets, 21,050 pillow covers, 2,150 pillows and 2,065 blankets were stolen
Over 21 lakh towels, bedsheets, blankets and other commodities have gone missing from air-conditioned coaches of Indian Railways trains during the year 2017-18.
In the fiscal 2018-19 alone, 1.95 lakh towels, 81,736 bed sheets, 55,573 pillow covers and 7,043 blankets were stolen from Indian trains, as mentioned in numbers by the Western Railway.
Legal Aspects
Number of cases registered: 1,71,015 (between 2009 to 2015)
Railway rules mandate that every theft on a train should be reported to the police, and an FIR be registered. But there is not a single complaint till date.
Imprisonment for a term which may extend to five years, or with fine, or with both is the punishment for theft of railway property.
Railway official said “Instead of getting into lengthy procedures post the FIRs, we decide to replace it without much noise,”
"Theft" and "dishonest misappropriation" shall have the same meanings as assigned to them respectively in section 378 and section 403 of the Indian Penal Code (45 of 1860)
Social Aspect
Tejas Express, whose cheapest ticket costs Rs 1,185, passengers stole its Jaguar fittings from toilets, headphones and also left several LED screens damaged.
Mumbai-Manmad Panchavati Express that was upgraded with better facilities and fittings at the cost of Rs 38 crore was left vandalised.
Such kind of theft incidents encourages others to try the same but ‘Rail Madad’ is a platform which can be used different types of support services.
Presently 3.9 lakh sets of linen are provided by Indian Railways everyday, which comprises two bedsheets, a towel, a pillow and a blanket for each passenger in the AC classes.
Washroom fittings like mugs, taps and flush pipes were not spared either.
Environmental Aspect
Theft of washroom fittings leads to wastage of water, which is pricelss.
Theft of electrical and electronic items like fans, lights, led screens, headphones etc leads to more consumtion as well as production, which eventually generates more e-waste.
It is not feascible to produce more and more bedrolls so railways is moving towards biodegradable sheets and towels.
Damaging the switch gears also causes the coach batteries to deteriorate, which also causes damage to the environment.
Damaging the rail alarms is another reason of accident which hurts the environment.
