The Egyptian calendar arises at the beginning of the third millennium BC and is the first known solar calendar in history. It was in full use at the time of Shepseskaf, the pharaoh of Dynasty IV. In the Pyramid Texts the 365 days of the Egyptian civil year are mentioned.
