the main cause for thyrotoxicosis is hyperthyroidism , which is an overactivity of the thyroid gland resulting from excess production of thyroid hormones in the blood stream . there are other rare cases of thyrotoxicosis of which include excessive intake of thyroid hormone in patients that are treated with hypothyroidism and sometimes the inflammation of thyroid hormone of which is thyroiditis causes a release of large quantities of thyroid hormone include toxic multinodular goiter and toxic thyroid adenoma
graves disease in which the thyroid stimulating immunoglobin binds to and stimulate the TSH receptor on the thyroid cell membrane which the results to an excessive of thyroid hormone

management
medication
drugs like beta blockers like propranolol can be used to help reduce symptoms of thyrotoxicosis such as heartrate , anxiety and sweating. since the treatment also incudes treating raised hormone levels , the use of carbimezole or propylthiouracil can be used to prevent over production of thyroid hormone
patients can be treated using two regimes of medications of which they start by carbimezole and have regular thyroid tests every one to two months and the medication dose can be changed according to blood results
radioactive iodine , this is when the patient takes a capsule of radio active iodine so that the iodine is taken by the thyroid gland and the radioiodine becomes concentrated causing a destruction on the overactive thyroid gland.
surgery , this is where there will be a removal of all the part of the thyroid gland and this is performed once the thyroid hormone levels have been controlled by medication.
