Digestion:
Breakdown of food into components in which the body can use.
Mechanical Digestion:
The physical breakdown of food into smaller pieces.
Chemical Digestion:
The chemical breakdown of food by substances known as enzymes.
Ingestion:
First stage of digestion. Food is taken into the mouth where it can be chewed and swallowed.
Teeth:
Canines:
Pointed sharp teeth used for tearing food.
Pre-molars:
Flat teeth used for grinding food.
Incisors:
Chisel like teeth used for cutting and biting.
Molars:
Flat teeth used for crushing food.
Herbivores:
Eats plants only.
Carnivores:
Eats animals only.
Omnivores:
Eat both plants and animals.
