Understanding the past
A historical investigation requires an understanding of historical context and skill in interpretation.
In history an event or a person might have different interpretations that provides multiplicity and collision in perrspectives.

Selecting evidence
Evidence might be limited according to the working field. For example, the remains of a Roman soldier might be a good primary source as well as it will be harder to reach which is why the research question should be selected in accordance with the available sources.
Examining evidence
A historical work can not only consist of primary sources. Primary sources should be combined with secondary sources in order to create a wider interpretation.
-
Primary sources are the "bedrocks of history" but on the other hand secondary sources may also have authority in specific cases
-
When selecting an evidence provenance and the source should be questioned. By questioning the origins and the value any sort of bias that may have been occurred can be detected. one-sided perspectives should be avoided
