Big bluestem

They have roots which can reach far. They are also used for structural support in the soft soil
The roots are adapted to stop the intake of a lot of salt from the water before it reaches the plant
They reproduce seeds that float, so when the tide comes in they take the seeds with them
They have a strong rotten egg odour to ward off animals

It grows to 25 cm in height, capturing as much sunlightas possible

It has darker leaves to absorb more energy from the sun
Acacia tree

The acacia tree can survive droughts because it has long roots that can reach deep, ground water sources
It is fire resistant
It has long sharp, thorns and is a perfect home for stinging ants, who hollow out the thorns and stay there
To stop giraffes eating their leaves, they pump alkaloid into their leaves which tastes nasty and is inedible. They also send a message to other trees, who then also pump alkaloid into their leaves
Acacia has dozens of small leaves to prevent water loss
Its umbrella shape allows it to catch as much sunlight as possible
