Anaemia - Coggle Diagram
Anaemia
Diagnosis
-
haemic heart murmurs may be detected which are usually soft with a maximum grade 2/6 located at left heart base
severe haemorrhage will cause signs of hypovolaemic shock, with bounding pulse progressing to weak and thready pulse as compensation fails
-
Haematological tests
PCV, haematocrit, haemoglobin concentration and RBC count
-
-
-
-
-
reticulocyte count
the greater the reticulocyte count, the greater the degree of regeneration of anaemia, except in renal disease, decreasing red cell mass results in increased erythropoietin concentrations. This results in increased reticulocyte production
-
-
-
Haemorrhage (regenerative, but maximum response may take 3-5 days
trauma e.g. RTA, arterial bleed
-
-
-
-
disorders of haemostasis
e.g. warfarin toxicity, VWD, thrombocytopenia, DIC
treatment
if animal BAR, normal HR, RR and pulse quality
-
-
-
suspected GIT bleeding
gastroprotectants e.g. omeprazole, sucralfate
-
-
Haemolysis
-
-
infectious diseases
babesiosis, ehrlichiosis, mycoplasma haemofelis in cats
toxins
zinc, paracetamol, onions
