Preoperative education and teaching
Patient needs to know what to expect and how to participate effectively during the surgery experience . Education is vital as it reduces stress, fear and enxiety , teaching also decreases complications , and prolonged hospitalization . Also teaching must includes patient safety therefore give written knowledge for patient and caregiver to review and reinforced at home . Usually preoperative education has three types of information : sensory information where you need to find out if the patient can see , hear , smells , and feels during the surgery. Tell client that OR is cold therefore the patient can ask for blanket . Also tells the client about IV line , catheter and surgical site
Surgery information
All patient received information on deep breathing , coughing and early ambulation after surgery unless contraindicated such as those who has done craniotomy, tonsillectomy.
