the first chapter has a really effective of pathetic fallacy- where the weather reflects the mood of the story- this is definitely the case with the eerie atmosphere in the house with the wind howling outside
the importance of the monkeys paw is quite a big aspect of imagery and setting in the story
the first chapter is very crucial to add setting and structure, at the start it makes you want to read on- it gets you thinking as to what will happen, you start predicting the ending.
i think the title is quite effective because the reader immediately gets quite excited and wants to find out what the monkeys paw has to do with the mystery...
