DEFINITION
Solid or fluid like lump formed in the gland
NURSING DIAGNOSIS
Acute pain
Risk for impaired airway clearance
Impaired verbal communication
PATHOPHYSIOLOGY
can be either malignant or benign
can develop as a result of secondary hypeplasia
it may differ depending on the type of the nodule
can develop as a mutation and resultant carcinoma
CAUSES
Sometimes can be genetic
Associated with hashimoto's disease
The overgrowth of normal thyroid tissue
NURSING INTERVENTION
Support the head with pillows
assess for verbal and non verbal reports of pain
Nurse the patient at semi fowlers position
PHARMACOLOGICAL MANAGEMENT
proplythroucil
paracetamol
Methimazole
DIAGNOSTIC TESTS
CT scan
MRI
ultrasound
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
lump in the neck
Usually there are no symptoms
