In 1803 Meriwether Lewis and William Clarke were the first pioneers of the Oregon trail
They were sent by the president Thomas Jefferson in 1803
People had to walk 2,000 miles
They started their trips on spring
At night people make a circle to protect theirselves and the livestock from the wind
People went there to start a new colonie
Build homes and farms with their fertile land
Pople built places with water and food along the Oregon trail to help the travelers
Along the way people started separating and creating new colonies
Some people died along the way
They get infected with influenza or chickenpox
Crashed by a wagon
Or accidentally being shot
Some of the people who went to the oregon trail
Fur traders, missionaries, farmers and gold miners
