JAPAN
Geography:
-
It is located on the east of China, Russia and Korea, being separated by the sea of East Japan.
Thanks to this, the country received its name "Niphon", which means "Sunrise Land".
Culture:
As the country is separated by sea from the asiatic continent, Japan´s nation was islated from the rest of the world for centuries, developing a strong culture that lacked the new technologies developed in the west
Even though they were isolated, Japanese people based their culture on Chinese traditions brought by inmigrants.
This isolation lasted until the XIX century, when the U.S arrived to the island and "forced them" into opening to the rest of the world.
They built a culture based on honor and duty, giving importance to justice and moral codes that ruled the people.
Even today, some of these ideals are still present in the formation of japanese people.
Military:
Japan is known for their samurais: soldiers that were versatile in combat and owners of a strong code of honor. They defended the island from multiple Mongol Empire´s invations over the course of history.
Even though Japan was ruled by an emperor, you could say that the true ruler was the Shogun, who was some kind of warlord in control of the army and military forces.
World Wars 1 and 2:
After opening to the rest of the world, Japan adopted imperialist thoughts, making them join the allies in WW1 in order to gain more land in the Pacific.
They continued invading more and more land, which would caught Nazi Germany´s attention. After becoming allies, they joined Germany against the Allies in WW2.
-
Food:
Japanese cuisine is based on fish, seaweed and rice. With these ingredients they have managed to developed many dishes such as sushi.
-
Allies:
The U.S is Japan´s closest ally, basically because they are a huge support in terms of economy and trading.
