The Strange Situation

Smith and Noble - show's that a child's reaction in the strange situation was related to how they behave in a more natural setting. High internal validity
Kaplan and Cassidy - tested babies at 18 months and then retested at 6years. Found 100% of the secure babies were still secure and 75% of avoidant were still the same. Reliability
Lamb - some children securely attached to mother but avoidantly attached to the father meaning it lacks validity as explanation changes depending on the context
Takahasi - test does not really work in Japan because Japanese mothers are so rarely separated from their babies there is high separation anxiety. Also in reunion Japanese mothers rush to baby and scoop them up so reaction is hard to see.
