Short form:
I'd studied
Uses
1.-
We use the past perfect to refer to an action or event that began in the past and that is prior to another action also in the past. The action that occurred first is in the past perfect and the one that follows is in the past simple.

the book before I saw the movie.
2.-
It is used for actions that occurred before a specific time in the past.
He
hadn’t been
to France before the trip in 2008.
3.-
Also, as in the present perfect, with some verbs we use the past perfect for situations that began in the past and continued to a specific point in the past.
PAST PERFECT PROGRESSIVE
Form
As in the present perfect continuous, the past perfect continuous is formed with the auxiliary verb "to have", "been" and the verb + ing.
I had been studying
Uses
1.-
We use the past perfect continuous to refer to something we had been doing (in process) when another action interrupted it. The past perfect continuous is used for action in progress and the past simple for action that interrupts. When we refer to something that we have been doing over a period of time, therefore, we usually use the tense prepositions "for" or "since".
Frank bought a new car.
He’d been looking for
one since last year.
2.-
Se utiliza para demostrar causa y efecto en el pasado.
She was tired because
she’d been working
too much.
