Pathophysiology
caused by the symptoms that are seen when a heart fails to pump effectively and blood will retreat into the vasculature of the lungs, causing congesiton

either the left, right, or both ventricles will fail as pumps; usually the left side will fail first followed by the right

Medications
beta blockers: slows heart rate and reduces blood pressure; limits/reverses some of the damage to the heart or if you have systolic heart failure

auscultate heart sounds, do physical examination
Patient Education
find ways to manage stress, get adequate amount of sleep

eat a healthy diet with fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins; limit sodium intake
