Education, in addition to being a fundamental human right, is an essential factor and, more generally, to achieve the primary objective of alleviating poverty. In Latin American countries (Latin America and the Caribbean) there are still 40 million adults who lack the basic learning tools to make informed decisions and participate fully in the development of their societies. For governments, the task of meeting the challenge posed by education is not only a moral imperative, but also a necessity for development. This task requires redoubling efforts to extend and improve education, offering young people and adults more opportunities to learn and fostering environments conducive to literacy.
