Stadistic in quantitative research
What is statistics?
Refers to raw numbers, or “stats”, and to the
summarization of data
The collecting, summarizing, and analyzing of data.
Types of stadistics
Inferential Statistics
: make inferences about the population,
based on a random sample.
Descriptive Statistics
: describe the relationship between
variables.
Levels of the data
Ordinal
: Data ordered, but distance between intervals not
always equal.
Interval
: Equal distance between each interval.
Nominal
: Categorical
Ratio
: Similar to interval scale, but has true zero point
Variable
Types of variable
Dependent variable
: variable that is dependent on or
influenced by the independent variable(s)
independent variable
: variable that you believe will
influence your outcome measure.
Intervening variable
: Variable that links the independet and dependent variable
Confounding variable
: Variable that has many other variable or dimension built into it
Basic steps of most research
1- Draw conclusions 2-Analyze data 3-Collect data 4-Research design 5-Develop research question
Types of questions
Inferential
