Absorption and distribution of drugs - Coggle Diagram
Absorption and distribution of drugs
Distribution of the drug into the body
The drug moves from the bloodstream into the body tissues
The drug penetrate different tissues at unique speed depending on the drug ability to cross the membrane
After absorption the drug rapidly circulates through the body
Drug distribution may also vary from person due to how the body is made
Absorption
the environment into which a drug is place determines the extent of absorption
pharmacokinetic parameter that refers to the way a drug is absorbed from a pharmaceutical formulation into bloodstream
it is influenced by the chemical composition of a drug
absorption is facilitated by passive diffusion ,active transportation
a process of a drug moving from its site into blood stream
Ionization of the drug
liberation . Release of the medical drug from a formulated medicine
drugs molecule ionize in aqueous solution to give weakly acidic or basic solutions
absorption .Movement of the liberated drug into the bloodstream
distribution. Passage of the drug from the bloodstream to body tissues and organs
fast past metabolism
All drug dose absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract is first delivered to the liver by the portal vein
A fraction of the drug can then be metabolized in the liver before reaching the systematic circulation
A phenomenon in which a drug gets metabolized at a specific location in the body
Plasma protein binding of drug
Xenobiotics free chemical may enter the metabolizing enzymes
Most important in this context are albumin acid-glycoprotein
Only the free unbound drug is available to the tissues to exert a therapeutic effect
High plasma protein binding limits the partitioning of xenobiotics from the blood
Binding forms a reservoir of drugs
Plasma half life
This depends on how the body processes and get rid of the dug
volume of distribution Vs and clearance are required to calculate the variables
Half life is the time required to reduce the concentration of a drug by half
It can vary from a few hours to a few days
Elimination of drugs
Removal of drugs and their metabolites from the body
They can be eliminated after being chemically altered
Or they may be eliminated intact
All drugs are eventually eliminated from the body
Removal of drugs from the body
