Agriculture uses about 70 percent of fresh water taken from rivers every year. River water is used by billions of people every year to irrigate farm and feed people.
Economic factors

industrial development and the increase in individual households means increased water consumption. At current usage rates water needed for industry and households is predicted to be at least doubled by 2025.
environmental factors
Environmental factors also include the amounts of water used for growing food. changing rainfall patterns and and warmer temperatures due to climate change are seriously affecting the water supply in some regions of the world.
