Modes of Nutrition
Food Habits
Herbivores are those animals which eat only plants, like grass leaves, fruits, etc. The examples of herbivorous animals are cows, goats and deers.
Animals which eat both plants and animals for their nutrition and energy are known as omnivores Examples of omnivores are bears, monkeys and dogs.
Animals which eat only flesh of other animals for their nutrition are carnivores. They do not eat plants. Examples are lions, tigers and wolves.
There are three main types of food habits for heterotrophs: carnivores, herbivores and omnivores

Heterotrophs
What are Heterotrophs? Heterotrophs are organisms that rely on other organisms for their nutrition and energy as they cannot prepare food themselves.
Heterotrophs are consumers. Examples of heterotrophs are non-green plants (as they have no chlorophyll to make food) and all animals, including humans.
The wolf is an example of a heterotroph
A parasite lives on a living host and gets his food on the expense of his host. He lives on or in him
The process of obtaining food from the dead and decaying matter is called saprophytic nutrition, and therefore, saprophytes are heterotrophs.
Autotrophs
What are autotrophs??- Autotrophs are called primary producers. Plants synthesis their own food by using sunlight, Co2 and water in presence of if green pigment found in plants (chlorophyll)
Autotroph examples are green plants, as well as fungi and algae
