Should we use animals for scientific tests?
thesis statement
it is so very cruel to test so many cruel and harmful things on animals. so many of them die, and it could even possibly lead to extinction
animal testing should completely be prohibited because it is a waste. so many animals die just from testing drugs and other things. even if we do test it on animals, we would still need to test those things on humans, since it will be a completely different outcome.
Animal testing should be prohibited because it is very cruel, it is ineffective, and it is ancient.
Hook
everytime you test an animal, you kill it. Animal testing is abuse.
have you ever asked yourself "how bad can animal testing actually be?"
have you ever asked yourself "how bad can animal testing actually be?", well every time you test an animal, you kill it. Animal testing is abuse.
Specialized info
it is ineffective because animals have completely different results than humans, so you would still have to test it on humans
Many animals die or get severely injured/ poisoned during the process, which is obviously not good in any way, shape, or form.
97% of animals die during the experimenting
History & Background
Animals have been used for science and medicine since the 3rd and 4th century. Only in 1983 did it really become an issue, so many animals were dying, and they needed to do something about it.
In U.S. animal testing was banned in 2002, while it was only banned in 2013 in Europe.
the first animals used for animal testing were pigs and goats
more than 600,000 animals die in science labs annually
Argument 1: animal testing is cruel and kills animals
over 600,000 animals die annually in labs. it is so cruel to test animals and kill them, and this has been going on for since the 3rd century. just imagine how many animals have died since then
it is cruel in every way possible, these animals are like humans, and there is only so much of each kind of animal.
these are living, breathing animals that have feelings. so many suffer and die for the purpose of science. not only do the animals getting tested die and/or get hurt, their families also suffer because they lose the animals, which might affect the food chain in that area. example: if someone takes away a mom rabbit, the children die as well since they don't have protection.
Argument 2: it is a waste and ineffective
These tests have been ineffective on humans and they have been a waste. We have used so many animals just for it to lead to not working on humans. over 600,000 animals die annually, only for the medicine or experiment not to work.
An example is that they spent so long researching cancer, and they always tested their experiments on mice and other different animals. they might have cured mice from cancer, but it didn't work for humans. they also wasted a lot of material, even though the experiments didn't work.
All of these tests have been completely ineffective and did not work on humans. They ended up wasting precious time, money, materials, and animals.
Argument 3: it is old and unnecessary
the scientists have made newer things like organs-on-chips, organoids, human-based microdosing, and more
the new, better options that scientists have created are cheaper, faster, and much more accurate that using animals for science tests and experiments
currently we are living in a very advanced generation, and scientists have developed more modern, humane, and effective non animal research methods.
