Bandura et al. (1961)
Strengths
-
-
-
Signed consent's were received from the children's parents, which allowed them to participate in the study.
Violence was directed towards inanimate instead of living objects, which is morally acceptable
Procedure
-
-
Children were then primed for agression arousal by first playing in a room with the researcher's "special and top-notch" toys, and then not allowing to play with them anymore
Then the children were led to a third room with a one-way mirror, and the behaviour of the children were scored for agression. The room included both agressive and non-agressive toys.
Method
-
Design
Matched pairs
Children's everyday agression levels were measured and scaled from 1 to 5, then children with similar agression levels were grouped.
Limitations
Low ecological validity, the test only included children
-
-
Results
The agressive group (Group 1) were more prone to inflict agression and agressive behavior towards the Bobo doll than the non-agressive group (Group 2)
Implications
Children are prone to imitate agressive or non-agressive behaviour displayed by adult models even if the model is not present. Also, children learn thorugh observational learning
