1. What role does the language play within the education system? Post 2000, with the reinstating of Portuguese as MOI, Tetum plays no role. In 2004-06, use of Tetum increases but no clear guidelines on its role as an MOI. It's limited to specific subjects. Following the 2007 crisis, to promote unity, Portuguese and Tetum are recognised as languages of instruction. But Tetum is an auxiliary language and is seen as only valued as an oral language. (p.116). This changes in 2008, with the Basic Education Act, which saw Tetum and Portuguese promoted more like equals. The 2011 extends this further
