YEAST
Metabolite from Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Bioactivities
Produce small amount of glycerol, acetic acid and aromatic esters
Antimicrobial
Method of extraction
Convert sugar to ethanol and carbon dioxide
Extracted from brewing beer
Application
Brewing beer
Class of compound
Saccharomycetes
Metabolite from Cryptococcus albidus
Bioactivities
Antimicrobial effects of oxidants
Method of extraction
Only the commercial kit allowed DNA extraction and amplification from contaminated soil samples up to a concentration of 10 cells/g and from one sample naturally colonized
With this work we extracted and amplified DNA from Cryptococcus spp. from environmental samples with appropriate PCR specificity, it will be a tool to establish the ecological areas of C. neoformans in our country
Extracted from leaf surfaces
Application
The capsule is a significant virulence determinant of C. neoformans because it helps to prevent the cells from being recognised and engulfed by white blood cells.
Additionally, C. neoformans is unique among Cryptococcus species in producing a phenoloxidase.
This enzyme acts on phenolic compounds to produce melanin, which might help to protect the cells against the antimicrobial effects of oxidants in host tissues.
Class of compound
Phenolic compounds
Metabolite from Candida vulgaris
Bioactivities
Antimicrobial
Antioxidant
Method of extraction
Papain extraction method
Application
Riboflavin
Class of compound
Saccharomycetes
