Improved network security. With logical divisions between subnets, you have greater control over who has access to what.
Improved network performance. Networks, like highways, can slow to a crawl when there’s too much traffic saturating the lanes.
Once you reach a certain number of devices on your network, and have exhausted the number of IP addresses you can assign on a subnet, re-subnetting is a useful way to add more IP addresses (sometimes called supernetting).
In subnetting, bits are ‘borrowed’ from the host ID to create a subnet. If you only borrow one bit, you have the possibility to create exactly two subnets, because only 0 or 1 are possible.
For further subnets, more bits must be released, leaving fewer places for host addresses. IP addresses with a subnet look exactly the same as those without. Even a computer cannot recognize the difference, so ‘subnetmasks’ are created.
If data packets are sent from the Internet to their own network, the router decides which subnet it uses to distribute the data.
Just like the IPv4 addresses, subnet masks consist of 32 bits (or bytes) and are placed on the address like a mask or template. A typical subnetmask looks like this: 255.255.255.128
Subnetting allows you to divide one physical network whether a class A, B, or C into several smaller logical subnetworks.
The main idea of subnetting is borrowing bits from the host IP address and using them to create one or more networks within the network.
- List the advantaged and disadvantages of subnetting.

Allowed any organization to subnet its network without needed to have a new network IP through an internet service provider (ISP).
Disadvantages
Subnetting decreases the total number of IP addresses in the network but may need buying additional hardware such as a router. So, it may cost lots of money.
It cannot correct the lack of efficiency because companies still assign address block regarding to classes.
