Digestive System Victor Sandoval Per. 2 - Coggle Diagram
Digestive System Victor Sandoval Per. 2
major functions
ingestion
propulsion
mechanical or physical digestion
chemical digestion
absorption
defecation
motility
enzymes help break up food in chemcial digestion
food is broken down by chewing with the mouth and it is mechanical digestion
digestive system breaks down food for energy
we use the energy from the food to help the body
Major Organs
GI Tract
mouth
esophagus
stomach
small intestine
large intestine
anus
contains solid organs also
liver
pancreas
gall bladder
small intestine has 3 parts
rectum
gallbladder
pharynx
salivary
duodenum
ileum
jejunum
cecum
digestive enzymes
Amylase - produces in mouth
pepsin - produced in the stomach
trypsin - produced in the pancreas
pancreatic lipase - produced in the pancreas
Deoxyribonuclease - produced in pancreas
ribonuclease - produced in pancreas
Amylase breaks down starches, fats, and carbohydrates into sugars
protease breaks down proteins into amino acids
lipase breaks down lipids which are fats and oils into gycerol and fatty acids
pancreatitis which is inflammation of the pancrease hurts the pancreas which can also reduce the number and effectivceness of certain digestive enzymes
pH level of stomach or intestines can also affect enzyme activity
inhibitors can also interfere with an enzymes ability to cause a chemical reaction
trypsin helps digest
pepsin starves to diegest the protein from foods
DNase helps to dreak down the DNA
RNase is a nuclease that catalyzes the degredation of RNA to smaller components
location and absorbsion of macromolecule
digestive system
mouth
small intestine
digestive tract
body
carbohydrates
proteins
lipids
nucleic acids
pancreas
digestive enzymes
Layers of GI Tract
mucosa
submucosa
muscular layer
serosa
muscularis mucosae
lamina propria
adventita
loose connective tissue
mucosa is most inner
submucosa is under mucosa
muscularis propia is under submucosa
adventita is most outer layer
mucosa functions in secretion and absorption
muscularis externa does contractions and peristaltic movement in the GI Tract
disorders of the Digestive system
Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease
Peptic Ulcer Disease
Stomach Flu
gluten sensitivity
celiac disease
inflammatory bowel disease
irratable bowl syndrome
constipation
hemorrhoids
diverticular disease
gallstones
