- - - - First phase- competition without European powers to establish vast overseas territories (1600-1800).
      - Second phase- a series of wars fought between the European powers where Britain’s naval strength led to their dominance (1700-1900).
    - - Empire- an extensive group of countries/states all ruled by a singular state

      - Naval and trading power developed a navy and trading was easier
  - - - The middle class was a new social class during the industrial revolution, they were neither poor or rich.
  - - - Middle class were neither poor or rich and took the jobs of police people and teachers.
      - The Aristocratic class were rich and lived in clean houses with electricity.
      - The lower class were poor and worked in poor conditions
- - - - Militarism - Develop a stronger army to fight in any war.
      - Alliance - Support with military and war.

      - Imperialism - Countries expand their territory to gain more power
      - Nationalism - Loving ones nation.
