Definition: the variety of living species that can be found in a particular place—region, ecosystem, planet, etc.
Scientists predict there are approximately 8.7 million species in existence, while only 1.2 million have been discovered so far.

Environment
Ecosystem - used to describe an ecological system, a portion of an environment. It is made up of all the living things that interact with one another.

Nonliving influences, such as soil or air quality, are ABIOTIC.

Most species have a specific environment that serves as their HABITAT, or usual home.
