History and Background
English is the most spoken language in the world and Chinese (Madarin) is the second.
Chinese and Arabic are the hardest languages to learn.
The oldest language is Tamil which was present even 5,000 years ago.
The bible is the most translated book and Pinnochio is the second.
Scientists believe that the first spoken language originated at 100,000 BC.

Thesis Statement
Languages are more than a way of communication, they are the way of life, the unity and the soul of a community and students should be required to take a second language because of this.
Students should be required to take languages becasue they are an essential part of our cultures, societies and communties.
Students should be required to take a second language because it can connect you with the culture, learning a language can help you learn other similar languages and it can help us inderstand the roots of words in English.
2nd Argument:Learning a language can help you learn other similar languages
Western Germanic Languages such as German, English, Dutch and Afrikaans are similar in writing.
Scandinavian Languages or Northern Germanic languages like Danish, Norweigian and Swedish are all very similar and at times identical.
Romance Languages (Italian,Romainian, French, Spanish and Portugese) are all derived from Latin.

Language is the cornerstone of a culture and understanding the language helps you understand the culture.
Languages are unique to cultures. Several people could speak a language but perhaps only one understands the culture.
There are many phrases unique to some languages and cultures so learning about them makes you more connected.
3rd Argument:Languages often are used as roots in English so learning the language itself can help you understand the etymology
Many words have rroots derived from Latin.
About 350 languages are represented in Eglish and they make up 80% of English words.
