The market revolution had a significant impact on US society.: More Americans worked in factories and no longer relied on agriculture. The middle class emerged as industrialization made expanded the gap between wealthy elite and poor laborers. Gender and family roles changed as more women worked in factories.
New transportation expanded production.: The market revolution resulted in more organization of production. Innovations like machinery, steam engine, telegraph increased efficiency of production. Legislation developed infrastructure and transportation networks.
McCulloch v. Maryland : a landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision that defined the scope of the U.S. Congress's legislative power and how it relates to the powers of American state legislatures.
Marbury v. Madison- a landmark U.S. Supreme Court case that established the principle of judicial review in the United States, meaning that American courts have the power to strike down laws, statutes, and some government actions that they find to violate the Constitution of the United States.
Mexican-American War
- an armed conflict between the United States and Mexico from 1846 to 1848 in the wake of the 1845 U.S. annexation of Texas, which Mexico considered part of its territory despite the 1836 Texas Revolution.
Trail of Tears- the forced relocation in 1838 of the Cherokee Native American tribe to the Western United States, which resulted in the deaths of an estimated 4,000 Cherokees. Resulted from the enforcement of the Treaty of New Echota, an agreement signed under the provisions of the Indian Removal Act.
Abolition- the movement in opposition to slavery, often demanding immediate, uncompensated emancipation of all slaves.
Louisiana Purchase- U.S. acquisition of the Louisiana territory from France in 1803 for $15 million. The purchase secured American control of the Mississippi river and doubled the size of the nation.
Nativism-a policy or belief that protects or favors the interest of the native population of a country over the interests of immigrants
