His father and grandfather wanted him to work in the religious field. He was not interested at first but later became the Baptist Minister.
Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta Georgia.

His first crucible experience was in his childhood where his white friend was not allowed to play with him under his father’s orders. He did not understand why at first but later understood.
Rosa Parks was on a bus and a white lady asked her to give up her seat. She did not. She was sent to prison, yet this sparked the bus boycott initiative.
And if a white person needs a seat, the black person should give theirs. Alabama was a blacks majority place.
Martin Luther King Jr. sparked the bus boycott where all blacks did not board a bus for a whole year. This stopped a lot of money from coming to the government.
Montgomery had various segregation laws. One of them divided the buses so that the front seats were for the whites, the back for the blacks.
The people who followed the boycott were beaten yet the continued on until the constitution of Montgomery banned the laws.
Here, he was afraid that there would be violent measures taken and so wrote a letter named ‘The Negro Is Your Brother.’
One day, he was protesting with others for discrimination of job offers when he was arrested in Birmingham jail.
In the letter, he talked about peace and faith. This led to a very peaceful crowd and he was soon taken out of jail.
Martin Luther King Jr. got a lot of attention after the bus protest and started travelling around to other place sot launch peaceful protests.
He then conducted the March on Washington in the capital of USA where he gave the speech ‘I have a dream’ to a multiracial 200,000 strong crowd.
The speech gave a vision of America where black people were treated fairly and equally and how this benefits USA.
On April 4th, 1968, he was in Memphis and was supporting a sanitization workers peaceful protest.

After the March, he gained a lot of recognition and started working on international problems. He went against America’s involvement in wars including the Vietnam war.
Ronald Reagan, the president at the time, declared Martin Luther King Jr. Day in 1983 and it was implemented 3 years later.
